15 years front line experience responding to patients requiring oxygen therapy and 12 years experience teaching oxygen therapy.
Who is the course for?
This course is suitable for qualified First Aiders, Emergency First Aiders, dental practitioners and dental care professionals, nurses, healthcare professionals and others working in an environment where oxygen is available for casualty welfare.
This training enables users to administer oxygen safely and effectively, for casualties with breathing difficulties. Delegates will learn how and when to administer oxygen to a casualty and the safety concerns with carrying, storing and administering it.

- Indications for the use of oxygen
- Contraindications prohibiting the use of oxygen
- Dangers of using compressed gas
- Health and safety rules for the use of oxygen
- Operational checks
- Identify when oxygen is required.
- Administering oxygen through different masks
- Administering oxygen to a patient in line with ways of working.
Accreditation
This qualification is regulated in the UK and awarded by First Aid Awards (FAA).
FAA are an awarding organisation regulated by Ofqual and SQA Accreditation and the qualification sits on the Regulated Qualifications Framework (RQF) and the Scottish Credit and Qualifications Framework (SCQF).
The qualification is delivered, assessed, and quality assured adhering to the Assessment Principles for Regulated First Aid Qualifications, and delivered and assessed in accordance with the current Resuscitation Council UK Guidelines.
Certification
On successful completion of the course students will receive a FAA level 3 Award in Oxygen Therapy Administration (RQF) that is valid for three years from the date of achievement.
Course duration
This is a classroom-based course of 6 contact hours. Dependent on the learner’s experience, there may well be some pre-course or post-course reading.
Assessment method
A range of methods are used, including, practical and questioning (open and multiple-choice).

12 students to 1 trainer
Prerequisite
This qualification is available to learners aged 16 or over.
Requalification
This qualification lasts for 3 years. To renew the qualification, learners will need to retake the full course. However, it is recommended that during the 3-year period, the learners attend annual refresher courses.
