    15 years front line experience responding to patients requiring treatment for anaphylaxis and 12 years experience teaching the management of anaphylaxis.

  • Who is the course for?

    An Anaphylactic shock, or anaphylaxis, is a life-threatening, serious allergic reaction to an allergen such as food substances or insect stings. If it is not treated appropriately, it may cause death. This training is for qualified First Aiders and Emergency First Aiders to enable them to recognise and treat anaphylaxis safely and effectively. This course is suitable for all First Aiders and healthcare professionals, as well as those in a high risk environment where such medication is available.

    • Life threatening problems associated with Anaphalaxis
    • Identify key feature of adrenaline auto injectors
    • Initial assessment using the ABDCE approach
    • Adult and child CPR
    • Recognise the need to use an autoinjector
    • The safe use of an adrenaline auto injectpr
    • Safe disposal of sharps
    • Handover to medical professionals

  • Accreditation

    This qualification is regulated in the UK and awarded by First Aid Awards (FAA).

    FAA are an awarding organisation regulated by Ofqual and SQA Accreditation and the qualification sits on the Regulated Qualifications Framework (RQF) and the Scottish Credit and Qualifications Framework (SCQF).

    The qualification is delivered, assessed, and quality assured adhering to the Assessment Principles for Regulated First Aid Qualifications, and delivered and assessed in accordance with the current Resuscitation Council UK Guidelines.

  • Certification

    On successful completion of the course students will receive a FAA level 3 Award in Immediate Management of Anaphylaxis (RQF) that is valid for three years from the date of achievement. 

  • Course duration

    This is a classroom-based course of 6 contact hours. Dependent on the learner’s experience, there may well be some pre-course or  post-course reading.


  • Assessment method

    A range of methods are used, including, practical and questioning (open and multiple-choice).

  • Maximum number on course

    12 students to 1 trainer

  • Prerequisite

    This qualification is available to learners aged 16 or over.

  • Requalification

    This qualification lasts for 3 years. To renew the qualification, learners will need to retake the full course. However, it is recommended that during the 3-year period, the learners attend annual refresher courses.
